Maine voters = jerks

Maine has now joined more than 30 other states in proclaiming their ignorance and bigotry:

In a stinging setback for the national gay-rights movement, Maine voters narrowly decided to repeal the state’s new law allowing same-sex marriage.

With 87 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday morning, 53 percent of voters had approved the repeal, ending an expensive and emotional fight that was closely watched around the country as a referendum on the national gay-marriage movement.

Oh and screw these guys too:

The Catholic Church was a leading supporter of the repeal campaign, even asking parishes to pass a second collection plate at Sunday mass to help the cause.

I’m not even gay and this sort of stuff pisses me off to no end. Why can’t these folks just mind their own business and stop denying homosexuals the right to live the kind of lives we as a country venerate. You know, the loving, monogamous responsible kind.

P.S. I would have rather quoted the NPR story for this post – since that’s where I first heard this news – but they didn’t have a good lede.

Wish we could get someone to come on this blog and legitimately try to defend banning gay marriage.

Screw the Catholic Church? Do you really expect them to keep their noses out of what they view as a “moral” and “righteous” cause? Until the issue of homosexuality itself is thoroughly addressed, don’t expect any quick fixes like gay marriage anytime soon. Your anger seems to be too unfocused here. Is it the voters you’re upset with, or the religious organizations that help fund these campaigns?

  3. I agree with Ian…would like to see someone show up and defend the ban….maybe they cannot because any defense would be hysterical BS. not from a position of intelligence.

Yeah, I mean, I don’t want to berate them or put them in their place or any such nonsense. I legitimately want to hear someone try and defend this.

I think all you would get is “because it’s Wrong”.

‘Left-handed people are not allowed to marry or enter into a civil union with other left-hand people.’ That’s about how arbitrary and silly the opposition to gay marriage is.

It’s wonderful that we have laws protecting our ability to kill other people yet laws against allowing people the right to be in recognized relationships with one another.
