Always billions for war…

… but not for helping the American people:

President Obama said Tuesday that he was determined to “finish the job” in Afghanistan, and his aides signaled to allies that he would send as many as 25,000 to 30,000 additional American troops there even as they cautioned that the final number remained in flux. (NY Times)

I wonder just how much those ~30,000 troops will cost. In any case, Obama and his hawkish allies don’t seem worried about the price tag, at least when it comes to war:

” I’ve set down a rule for my staff, for my team – and I’ve said this to Congress – health care reform must be, and will be, deficit-neutral in the next decade.” Barack Obama, June 2009

I’m sure all the wonks are happy that he has named a number. I’d be happier if he named a strategy.

  2. To answer one of your questions…..I have read the figure of $1 million per soldier per year….

My question is how many more will be needed next year and the years to follow? They are going down a dangerous path…..all this troop stuff was said over thirty years ago in Vietnam and that was not one of our finest hours…..
